"Xan, you don't need to do this," Spike said for the fifth time, taking a hit off the joint Oz had passed him and holding it in his lungs.
They were at Lindsey's penthouse and it was Friday night. The only reason Spike had agreed to step foot in the place -- apart from Lindsey and Xander threatening to kidnap him if he didn't come over and spend some time with them -- was that Angel had flown to Chicago earlier that day to work out some last minute details with Fall Out Boy for a video of theirs he was shooting next month. He was supposed to be back in the morning.
"Yes I do," Xander insisted.
Spike rolled his eyes and released his breath as he passed the joint to Lindsey. "I believe you. Besides, wasn't the soddin' reason I disappeared for a few days--"
"Over a week," Xander interrupted.
Spike sighed. Getting high was supposed to make you less stressed. Instead, Xander seemed to be getting more and more wound up each hit he took. "Right, a week. More. Whatever. 'M sorry, okay? Got kinda caught up in Angel. Happens. They call it the honeymoon period, or some such, don't they?"
Lindsey started giggling at that and Spike punched him. "What? They do!"
Lindsey looked at him and said between fits of pot induced laughter, "And it only lasted a little over a week? Dude, you need a new man."
Spike tossed a throw pillow at his head. "Fuck off. Would have been longer if two pain-in-the-arse friends of mine hadn't threatened to bodily remove me from my home and hold me against my will indefinitely."
Xander pouted.
Spike immediately felt like a wanker. Giving in, he said, "Fine. If you're so psyched to do this, let's do it. Don’t say I didn't warn you, though. You walk into a place like that, you're going to get felt up."
Lindsey shot him a sidelong look. "And you know this how?"
Spike shifted and cleared his throat, not looking at Lindsey as he mumbled, "Been there before. With Angel."
When he did finally look at Lindsey, it was to find his friend looking back at him, impressed. "Think he can get us in? Otherwise we'll probably spend most of the night stuck in line with nothing to show for it."
Spike felt like a deer caught in the headlights, not sure how to answer that. Thankfully, he didn't have to.
"What about your dad? Doesn't he have connections?" Oz asked, taking a hit off the joint when it was passed to him.
Lindsey shrugged. "Yeah, just didn't want to bother him if I didn't have to. Besides, I think this is the perfect excuse for us to meet Spike's mystery boyfriend."
Spike snorted. "Not my soddin' boyfriend."
Lindsey looked at him skeptically. "Are you seeing anyone else?"
Spike shrugged. "No."
"Are you fucking anyone else?"
Again Spike said, "No."
"Do you have a standing date at least once a week and spend all the time you can together in between?"
Spike picked at an imaginary piece of lint on his black jeans. "S'pose."
"Then you have a boyfriend," Oz supplied matter-of-factly.
Spike accepted the joint from Oz and took another drag off it, holding it in his lungs as he thought about what Lindsey and Oz had said. Suddenly, he very much wanted to talk to Angel, to find out if that's what they were.
As if wishing it made it so, the front door opened and closed, and seconds later he was staring at Angel -- Liam O'Connor to everyone else, Spike reminded himself -- wide-eyed and frozen to the spot.
Unable to hold his breath any longer, Spike unintentionally broke the sudden silence in the room by exhaling a cloud of smoke. Loudly.
Almost instantly, Lindsey, Xander and Oz dissolved in a fit of giggles. Spike longed to join them, but he was trapped in Angel's gaze, unable to do anything but stare as he found himself in a situation he'd hoped to never be in. He had no soddin' clue how to act normal around Angel now, and was sure everyone would know what they did when they were alone within seconds.
Angel remained where he was until the giggling subsided, then said, "Lindsey, can we talk for a minute?"
Lindsey shot everyone a put upon look and pushed up off the couch, following Angel out of the room. Once he left, Spike, Xander and Oz all went to work cleaning up the coffee table of the snacks they'd raided from the pantry and the bag of pot and rolling paper that had been sitting there next to them. Xander hurried from the room and returned a minute later with air freshener from the toilet down the hall, spraying it liberally around. Spike and Oz waved their arms and told him to stop, choking on the smell.
"Soddin' hell, Xan. Now it smells like we've been smoking cinnamon pot."
Chagrined, Xander put the aerosol can down and sat. "Sorry."
They all fell silent for a minute, then Xander asked, "Think he's in a lot of trouble?"
Spike didn't know how to answer that, realizing he had no ruddy idea what Angel's policy was about Lindsey doing drugs with friends in his house. What he was more worried about, was whether Angel would be pissed at him or not. He told himself Angel didn't have a right to be, he wasn't his father after all -- and thank fuck for that or Spike would seriously have to consider committing himself -- but something told him Angel was going to have something to say to him about it, just the same. If for no other reason than because the last time he'd got high with Lindsey, they'd got each other off.
A few minutes later, Lindsey entered the room again, looking at the straightened up coffee table with a frown. "Where'd everything go? And what the hell is that smell?"
Spike, Xander and Oz looked at each other. Xander was the one to answer. "We thought you were in trouble so we tried to, you know, fix it."
Lindsey chuckled and flopped down on the couch, nearly on top of Spike. Spike tried to move away, but he was trapped between Lindsey and the arm rest with nowhere to go.
Shoving his hand in his pocket to get at his mobile, Lindsey leaned even further into Spike and said, "Nah, he just wanted to make sure we weren't planning on driving anywhere. I told him about the club so he called his driver. We're going over in the limo. He's calling the club now. We'll get in, no problem."
"Cool dad," Oz said.
Xander agreed.
Spike couldn't speak because just then Angel walked back into the room and locked eyes with him while the others were talking. It was beyond obvious he wasn't happy with how close Lindsey was sitting to Spike.
Clearing his throat, Spike stood and said, "I'm uh, going to use the…yeah. Be right back."
He hurried out of the room and down the hall to the guest toilet. He walked in and closed the door behind him, leaning against it and trying to remember how to breathe. He hadn't done anything wrong, dammit. He couldn't help that Lindsey got all touchy-feely when he got high. Somehow, he wasn't so sure Angel would see it that way, though.
Several minutes later, Spike gathered himself together, used the toilet, flushed and washed his hands, then opened the door to head back. Instead he found himself face to face with Angel. Before Spike could so much as squeak in surprise, Angel put a finger to his lips to silence him and backed him into the room, following him in. Angel shut the door behind them and locked it. Spike swallowed hard.
"I can explain," he started.
He didn't get a chance to finish because Angel chose that moment to wrap a hand around the back of his neck and pull him in for a hard, punishing kiss that left Spike slightly dizzy. Spike moaned and returned it, hands coming up to grip Angel's waist to steady himself.
Eventually, Angel pulled back and just…stared at him. Feeling uncomfortable under the scrutiny, Spike fidgeted. At least, as much as he could with Angel still holding him by the back of his neck.
Unable to take it any longer, Spike asked petulantly, "What?"
"What's to explain?" Angel asked. "You didn't think I'd be back until tomorrow, so you decided to go out with your friends and have some fun."
Spike blinked at the unassuming tone of Angel's voice, so at odds with the death grip he had on the back of his neck. If he hadn't been half baked, he might have wondered at it. "Uh, yeah. That about sums it up."
"I'm guessing Oz brought the pot over?"
Spike nodded slightly, feeling like he was walking a tight rope and at any moment Angel would let go of him and he'd fall.
"And you thought what the hell, it worked out so well the last time I got high with my boyfriend's son, why not go for a second round of frottage?" Angel said, unassuming tone giving way to sarcasm.
Spike blinked, not knowing what part of that sentence to address first. The hazy fog his head was in from the pot and the kiss didn't help. Finally, he asked inanely, "We're boyfriends?"
Angel blinked in return, finally dropping his hand from Spike's neck. Spike stumbled back a few steps, shooting a hand out to the counter to steady himself.
"What kind of question is that?" Angel asked.
Spike bit his lip and shrugged. "Just, you know, we don't go anywhere together, like on dates. Thought I was more your dirty little secret than a boyfriend."
Angel…growled. That was the only way to describe the sound that emanated from him. Spike's eyes widened and an instant later he found himself pressed against the wall opposite the sink, a very intense Angel pressed against him, hands squeezing Spike's biceps, hard.
"You're not a dirty little secret, Spike. I don't ever want you thinking that, understand?"
Hurriedly, Spike nodded, adrenalin pumping through his veins, sobering him somewhat. He wasn't afraid of Angel, exactly. More…turned the fuck on by the show of dominance. And then some.
Angel squeezed his arms harder and asked again, "Understand?"
Finding his voice, Spike said breathlessly, "Yes, Angel."
Seemingly pacified, Angel loosened his grip, although he didn't release him.
His eyes dropped to Spike's lips and he said, "You have no idea how badly I want to fuck you right now."
Spike swallowed, deliberately pressing his hips to Angel's. "Think I do."
Again Angel's lips descended on his, and again Spike returned the kiss enthusiastically, moaning as Angel's tongue delved into his mouth.
When Angel pulled back, Spike tried to shake off the drug and arousal induced fog in his head and focus on what else Angel had said to him a minute ago.
Frowning, he asked, "Can I ask you something, you know, freely?"
Angel backed up, releasing Spike completely. "Go ahead."
Spike nodded. "Right, then. What the fuck are you talking about? When I did that with Lindsey, I had no soddin' idea what the hell we were to each other, or even who you were. Didn't know I was making out with your son…and fuck me, how twisted is that, anyway?" Angel opened his mouth to speak, but Spike held up a hand, silencing him. "Forget I said that. Been over that, I know. Just…moments like this, when you walk in and I'm hanging out with him, it's just…bloody weird, you know?"
Angel nodded.
"Right. So I've no intention of doing that with him again. You laid out the rules and I plan on sticking to them. And even if you hadn't, you just more or less said we're boyfriends, and…I kind of like that idea -- a lot -- and I'm not a cheat, even though I screwed up that one time."
Spike fell silent and Angel asked, "Are you done?"
Spike thought about it, then nodded.
"Good. I'm sorry. I just…saw him hanging all over you on that couch and saw red. I don't share well, unless I'm the one sharing you. You should know that now."
Spike nodded again, a warm glow starting somewhere deep inside him and spreading at the knowledge that Angel had been that jealous.
Snaking out a hand, Angel grabbed the front of Spike's tee-shirt and pulled him to him. Wrapping his arms around him, Angel reached down and squeezed Spike's arse through his jeans.
"Are you wearing it?"
Spike swallowed hard. Before he'd left for Chicago, Angel had told him to wear the curved vibrating plug whenever he went out as a reminder that his arse belonged to Angel and only Angel. Not trusting his voice, Spike nodded.
"And the switch, is it on the remote setting?"
Again Spike nodded, breath caught in his throat, having an idea where this was going. Angel's lips curved up into a smile. "Good. When you get to the club tonight, you dance with whoever asks you, but you make sure no one touches your cock, and no kissing. And Lindsey's off limits. You can dance with him if he initiates it, but that's it. No grinding, no…anything. Otherwise, you let them touch you wherever they want, however they want, understand?"
Spike groaned and pressed himself against Angel. "Yes, Angel."
Angel leaned in and nipped at Spike's lips, then said, "When you get so horny you can't take it any more, go to the private rooms in the VIP section. The bouncer will be expecting you. Wait for me in the room he tells you to go to, and no touching yourself or the plug."
Spike's eyes fluttered shut and he leaned into Angel further, pressing their mouths together. Against Angel's lips, Spike asked, "And then you'll fuck me?"
Angel nipped at his bottom lip and answered, "And then I'll fuck you."
Spike weaved through the sea of people toward the bar with Xander plastered to his side. Still buzzing, although he could feel the high starting to wear off, Spike glanced over at Xander and said again, "We can leave if you want."
Xander looked at him and shook his head. "No. I want to show you that I'm okay with this, with you. Besides, you always go to straight clubs with me; I figure it's my turn to go to your kind of club."
Spike arched an eyebrow. "Difference is, I like birds too, Xan. Not about to have a heart attack if one pinches my arse, am I?"
"I'm not going to--" Xander stopped short and whipped around, glaring at a bloke who was smirking back at him. "Hey, back off, buddy. I'm…taken."
The guy looked past him to Spike and his smile broadened, obviously coming to the conclusion from the way Xander was invading his space that Spike was his boyfriend. "Hey, not a problem. I'm up for a threesome."
Spike watched Xander's jaw open and close several times wordlessly and took pity on him. Slipping an arm around Xander's waist and leaning into him, Spike said to the bloke, "Thanks for the offer, but Xan and I are exclusive. Don't feature sharing him with anyone, sorry."
The bloke looked disappointed, but nodded his head and wandered off. The second he was gone, Xander pulled away from Spike and looked at him. "Thanks. I…kinda froze."
Spike smiled at him. "'S alright. If I wasn't a little bent, I'd probably have the same reaction. And for future reference, just tell them you're straight. Don't have to go pretending you're involved. Usually won't work anyway. Men are pigs. Unless they're into reluctant straight boys, nothing will throw a bucket of cold water on them faster than telling them you're straight."
Spike had been to a few chat rooms while researching things, and found out that was the quickest way to get rid of the more persistent blokes who had kept slamming him with private messages.
Xander nodded. "Got it." Looking around he asked, "Where'd Lindsey and Oz go, anyway?"
Spike looked around also and spotted them on the dance floor together. While it was true Oz had a girlfriend, Willow, and seemed completely devoted to her, he obviously didn’t have any issues with being surrounded by gay men wanting to dance with him. Lindsey was right next to him, grinding on an attractive guy Spike remembered dancing with last time he'd been there.
"Over there. Fancy a dance?"
Xander looked at some men dancing together nearby and shook his head. "Uh, not right now. Let's just go over to the bar. Maybe I'll get a free drink with the next ass pinch."
Spike chuckled, glad to see Xander was starting to relax enough to joke, even if he wasn't up to tackling dancing just yet. Spike, for his part, couldn't wait to get out there. He didn't see Angel anywhere, but he knew he was there. He could feel him. And he knew the sooner he got out on the dance floor and followed instructions, the sooner he'd be able to head to the private rooms and get rogered good and proper. He was half hard just thinking about it.
They reached the bar and had just ordered drinks -- sticking to soda so as not to risk getting Angel in trouble for getting them in -- when Oz emerged from the throng of writhing men and strode over to them. He sat next to Xander and laid several bits of paper with numbers scrawled on them on the bar, then signaled to the bartender.
Glancing at them, he said, "Apparently, I'm what's called a twink, and twinks are in high demand, or so I'm told."
Xander's eyes bulged and Spike laughed. He'd been too nervous and turned on to care what the blokes he'd danced with the first time he'd been in here were saying to him, but after the fact, he'd remembered them calling him that and when he'd taken off his jeans that night at home, he'd discovered more than a few numbers stuffed in the pockets.
Seeing his chance, Spike pointed toward the dance floor. "If you two are alright here, I’m just going to…."
He trailed off and Xander and Oz both nodded, Xander saying, "We'll be fine."
Spike smiled at them, then turned and pushed his way through the crowd. He couldn't help but search the sea of faces, looking for Angel, knowing he'd have to pick an out of the way place to hole up so Lindsey or the others wouldn't see him. Finally, he spotted Angel in a shadowy corner on the VIP level, arms crossed over his chest, leaning against a support post next to the railing that overlooked the dance floor below.
Spike stopped short in the middle of the dance floor and felt his heart start to race as their eyes locked. Casually, Angel lifted one hand and pushed something with his thumb. Suddenly, Spike's arse started vibrating at a low buzz. His eyes fluttered closed for an instant and he felt a body press against his front. Opening his eyes again, he glanced at the bloke who had decided to help himself to him, then slipped an arm around his waist and a leg between his and started to dance. He looked back up at Angel, smirking at the heat in his eyes, before turning away and giving him his back while he and the guy pressed against him grinded on each other to the beat of the music.
A hand grabbed Spike's arse, sliding in toward his cleft, and suddenly the bloke sucked in a sharp breath and looked at him. Spike met his eyes and smirked, knowing the guy felt the base of his plug. The man smiled back, probably thinking he was going to get lucky, poor sod, and they started dancing in earnest, the hand playing with the base of his plug through his jeans. Spike groaned and thought momentarily of pulling his hand away, but Angel's instructions had been specific: anywhere on his body besides his mouth and cock were fair game to play with. Besides, with the way Spike had his back turned to him, he knew very well Angel could see his backside perfectly, and if he'd been displeased, the vibrating would have stopped.
That in mind, Spike pressed his groin to the random guy's thigh and rubbed himself against him as his prostate was stimulated mercilessly. Suddenly, hands wedged themselves between his torso and the guy he was dancing with and Spike looked over, surprised to see Lindsey there. The bloke scowled and started to turn toward Lindsey, but Spike grabbed his arm and shook his head.
Leaning in, he said loudly over the music, "Leave off; he's a friend. I'll catch up with you later, maybe."
The guy scowled at him, but left just the same, and then Lindsey was in front of him, pressed against him, but not too tightly, and saying in his ear, "Thought you had a boyfriend?"
Spike tensed for an instant when the plug in his arse stopped vibrating altogether, but he turned with Lindsey in his arms and looked up at Angel to find him nodding silently at him.
Answering Lindsey's question, Spike said, "Told you we have an understanding. Long as I have permission first, can…do certain things with other blokes. What I was doing with that guy was one of them."
Lindsey pulled back a little and looked into Spike's face. "Permission? And that night when we…. You said something about rules. What kind of relationship is it that you have with this guy?"
Spike's face started to heat and that was all the answer Lindsey apparently needed. His eyes widened. "You…. Seriously?"
Spike affected a bored expression, hoping to downplay things a little. "So what? Not a big deal, is it?"
Lindsey studied his face for a minute, then shook his head. "Nah, not a big deal. I'm just surprised. That night we…. You didn't act like a bottom at all. I wouldn't have thought of you as the submissive type."
Spike chuckled. "Me either, mate. But Angel, he just…. Can't explain it. Just know it feels right."
Lindsey smiled. "That's what matters, then."
Lindsey pulled him closer again and they danced for a little while, relatively chastely.
After few minutes, though, Lindsey asked against Spike's ear, "So, you're allowed to do…certain things? Same things as last time?"
Spike weighed his answer carefully. "I am, but…."
He trailed off.
"What?" Lindsey asked, pulling back to look at him.
"Not with you," Spike admitted. "He…knows what we did, and he wasn't happy about it. Besides, there's the friendship thing. Wouldn't want to mess that up, would we?"
Lindsey looked disappointed, but nodded. "Yeah, you're probably right."
Not wanting Lindsey to feel like he was rejecting him because really, he wasn't, Spike said, "But if I wasn't with him?"
Lindsey looked at him expectantly. "Yeah?"
Spike leaned in and said against his ear, "Right now we'd be in one of those back rooms I heard about, shagging like rabbits."
Lindsey shuddered against him. "Jesus. Fuck." Spike smirked as Lindsey pulled away and added, "On that note, I need to go find a willing, available guy. See you later."
Spike laughed when Lindsey adjusted himself as he walked away. He looked back up at the second level and his smile evaporated when he saw the look on Angel's face. He didn't look happy. A little worried that that he'd read Angel wrong and done something he shouldn't have with Lindsey, Spike started to pull his mobile out of his pocket, intent on asking, then thought better of it. Bugger it. He knew who Angel was now, was no reason he couldn't talk to him about it face to face.
He started for the staircase leading to the upper level, but was stopped by the guy who'd hit on Xander, and then the both of them when they'd arrived. "I thought you and your boyfriend were exclusive?"
Spike shot him an impatient look. "We are."
"Then what was with that dancing a few minutes ago. You were grinding on that one guy like a bitch in heat."
Getting irritated, Spike said, "What are you, stalking me?"
The bloke surprised him by laughing and pulling him against him. "No, just very interested. Let's dance."
Spike felt hands creep down to his arse just as the plug inside him started vibrating again. Spike bit back a groan. He didn't have time for this. He wanted to find out why Angel had looked angry with him. Angel's orders to him echoed in his head, along with the knowledge that Angel obviously expected him to let this guy paw him, given the resumed vibrations, but just then he couldn't be arsed to care. The bloke was a dickhead and Spike had no intention of letting him grope him, Angel's orders be damned.
Shoving the guy away, Spike said, "Before? I was trying to let you down easy, but since you're obviously dense, I'll spell it out: I'm not interested and Xander's not interested, got it?"
Not waiting for an answer, Spike walked away, gritting his teeth at the fact that the vibrations immediately stopped. He crossed to the stairs leading to the VIP section and was waved past by a bouncer who obviously had been told by Angel to allow him up. He took the stairs to the upper floor two at a time and wove his way through the crowd to the last spot he'd seen Angel. Turning in a circle, he didn't see him anywhere. Shoulders slumping, he started for the stairs at the other end, hand in his pocket to pull out his mobile again, resigned to having to text him and most likely apologize.
Instead, an arm snaked around him from behind and Spike found himself pulled into the shadows and against a hard body. He sucked in a sharp breath and tensed for a second before looking down and seeing a familiar watch on the wrist of the arm holding him. Angel's watch. He relaxed back against him and pulled his hand out of his pocket in favor of laying it over Angel's forearm and squeezing lightly, needing the extra bit of contact.
"Did I do something wrong?"
"What do you think?" Angel asked against the side of his neck.
"I think I followed the rules with Lindsey, so I don't understand the look that was on your face after."
A hand settled over his half hard cock and kneaded it lightly. "Tell me what you talked about with him."
Spike gasped, bucking into Angel's hand. "What?" he asked sharply, "You want a play by play?"
Angel squeezed his cock and balls warningly. "Remember yourself."
Spike moaned. "Yes, Angel."
Angel pressed his erection against Spike's arse. "I want to know what it was you said that made Lindsey walk away, adjusting himself."
So that was what had got Angel's knickers in a twist, Spike realized. He reached up and threaded his fingers through the hair at the back of Angel's head, holding him to him as Angel licked and sucked and nipped at his neck. "He…fuck, Angel…he asked if I was still allowed to do stuff, like before, at your place."
The hand at his groin stilled. "What'd you tell him?"
Spike thrust against Angel's unmoving hand, frustrated that he wasn't rubbing and squeezing anymore. "Told him yes, but that I wasn't allowed to with him because of last time, with the jerking each other off."
"What else?"
Spike made a noise of frustration. "Also told him I didn't want to mess up our friendship, anyway."
The hand left his groin completely then, settling on his hip. Spike whimpered.
"That's not why he had to adjust himself as he walked away, though."
Spike bit his lip, worried at Angel's reaction, but knowing he couldn't -- wouldn't -- lie to him. "Told him that if I wasn't with you, we'd have been in one of the back rooms right then shagging like rabbits."
For a moment, Angel didn't respond.
Getting worried, Spike tried to turn around and look at him, but Angel stopped him with a squeeze of his hip and a firm, "No."
"Angel?" Spike asked, truly worried now.
"And the guy just now that wanted to dance? What'd you tell him?"
Spike bit his lip, knowing he'd broken a rule there. "Told him I wasn't interested. He was an arsehole, Angel, and not worth my time."
Angel tensed against him an instant before he let go of him completely and stepped around him. "Come with me."
Not daring to question him, Spike followed as Angel led the way through the crowd of men, some of whom were mingling, some kissing or more, to a hallway lined on both sides with doors. The VIP back rooms. Conflicting feelings about it fought for dominance inside Spike. On the one hand, the horny part of him was hopeful, but on the other hand, he knew something was off. He was pretty sure Angel wasn't taking him back for a shag.
Angel walked up to the bouncer stationed there and pointed toward a door. The man nodded and stepped aside. Angel started past and Spike, with a curious look at the bouncer who pretty much ignored him, followed.
They reached a door and Angel turned the knob, stepping aside for Spike to enter in front of him. Spike walked in and looked around. The room was cozy but not too small, boasting a wet bar and several pieces of furniture, including a couch and several chairs.
Again, Spike might have thought Angel had brought him there to fuck him, except for the serious look on his face when he shut and locked the door behind him. Spike changed his mind again, though, when Angel unbuckled his belt and slid it off, thinking he did want to bugger him after all, but then, instead of dropping it, Angel folded it in half and gripped the end with the buckle in his hand, his other about halfway down the strap, holding it taut.
Suddenly getting a good idea of what Angel was about, Spike's eyes widened and he took a step back. "What…."
"Drop your pants and turn around."
