Early Experience
One or more of the characters romantically or sexually involved in these fics are teenagers or in their early college years (if I were trashier, I would use the phrase “barely legal” but we all know I’m the picture of class). Many of these are first-time fics. Sometimes their partner is another teenager, sometimes they are older. Each fic carries the age of the youngest characters in the warnings section of the header.
Sometimes these experiences are pleasant and positive and bunnies romp through fields. But sometimes these experiences are unpleasant or involve cohersion, which will also be reflected in the warnings. Actions and attitudes of the characters do not necessarily reflect those of the author. We all believe sex should be had between consenting parties old enough to make an informed decision. Unfortunately, the world doesn’t always work that way. So, you know, blame society, not us. What, is that out of vogue now? Really? Well…whatever. Don’t try this at home.
Most fics hosted here are sexually explicit.
Assorted Drabbles by nyghtpet—Angel/Spike. A set of drabbles that tackle a number of scenarios: soccer dads grabbing stolen moments, a businessman with a hired hooker, a priest seduced by a rebellious youth, teenagers rough-housing, and a doctor that can’t resist a breach of ethics with one drugged-up patient.
Why these drabbles? They’re little nuggets of happiness and kink. It’s not easy to establish a human reality in such a brief time, and she gets the job done beautifully.
The Bad Seed by meretrix—various pairings (slash). Riley is dead, whodunit.
Why this fic? I love the hard-boiled-cop-show feel of this fic. The whole story is told through the interrogation of various characters, and her storytelling in this fic rocks my socks off.
The Birthday Special and sequel by spankspike and thatotherperv—William/Angel. William always set aside his sexual orientation so as not to disappoint his mother. Now she has passed on, and he’s still a virgin at 30. He seems slated to remain that way forever until he’s propositioned by an aggressive hustler.
Why these fics? spankspike opens up a universe that explores William's loyalty and love for his mother and his first shaky steps toward self-fulfillment. thatotherperv takes up the tale, and furthers our understanding of what these two isolated people could mean to each other, if they don't let circumstances and their own harsh realities keep them apart.
Boys Like Him by thatotherperv—Spike/Buffy. 1950s human AU. Buffy’s a good girl. Spike’s a bad bad boy. She wasn’t supposed to like boys like him.
Why this fic? The mood of this fic captures the time period perfectly without making it feel dated. Sweet and incredibly sexy even though barely a scrap of clothes is removed, all within a world of rich, recognizable characters. A must read for any Spuffy fan!
Crash and Burn by nautibitz—Spike/Buffy. Buffy's a barely legal Bel Air brat, Spike's a reckless, heartbroken punk. When they crash into each other on a mountain road, sparks fly.
Why this fic? This is such an enjoyable read. Some of the best irritable spuffy banter I’ve ever seen in human AU.
Differences Aside by felisblanco—Spike/Liam. A painfully shy teenager, Liam is shocked—and not a bit terrified—the day bad boy Spike takes an interest in him.
Why this fic? The fumbly sweetness between these two is totally beguiling to me…which only makes the dark edge even more of a sucker punch.
The Drive-in by thatotherperv—Angel/Spike. Angel and Spike have been best friends forever. Now Spike has other ideas. Window-steaming ensues.
Why this fic? This is hot, funny, and sweet. thatotherperv explores what Angel and Spike mean to each other, despite their posturing. They're undeniable attraction for each other is inevitable, no matter what 'verse they're in.
Fascinating New Thing by thatotherperv—Angel/Dawn. When Angel develops a crush on Dawn, she pretty much laughs in his face. But, you know…things work out. Unapologetic fluff. Not sexually explicit.
Why this fic? This is Dawn better than canon. She's a full fledged young woman here, and she takes center stage effortlessly. She's sassy, self-confident, smart and sweet. Angel with a crush is adorable, and all of the supporting characters are hilariously spot-on in their roles as the people who help and hinder their hook-up. A sweet, fun read.
Hold on Tight by denied heaven—Lindsey/Fred. Lindsey and Fred are teenagers together in Texas. They have different dreams for the future, but for now, they have this.
Why this fic? I had never given these two a single thought together, but this fic will make you a shipper. Not only does she capture that nostalgia of teen groping so well, they’re so goddamn *sweet* together…in the hurtiest way.
Home by thatotherperv—Angel/Spike. Angel and Spike grew up together in the foster care system. When Spike ages out of the system and finds himself homeless, there’s only one person he knows will take him in. As long as he doesn’t give him a choice.
Why this fic? As usual, thatotherperv takes a unique starting point, and uses it as a means to uncover deeper issues between Angel and Spike. This is a classic HAU story: funny, sweet, deep, and amazingly hot.
Into Trouble by sweptawaybayou and blueswan—various pairings (slash). Trouble…the new boy band sensation.
Why this fic? ummm, it's four pretty boys basically fucking their way to fame. Need I say more?
It’s an Ache by denied heaven—Angelus/William. A secret summer romance spirals out of control, leaving both boys scarred and damaged years later.
Why this fic? It’s an interesting look at the Angelus/William dynamics, motivations, and underlying emotions, and the style by which she comes at the story is unusual and beguiling.
**Please note that this fic is a Work in Progress. It is, as yet, unfinished. I decided to include it against our rules because it’s just that good, and I know it will be finished eventually.**
Lips by ladycat—Xander/William. For a guy whose nickname was Spike, he was doing a really good impression of Giles the Librarian, the Younger.
Why this fic? the boykissing. it never gets old
Lucky No. 13 by eyezrthewindows—Spike/various (het and slash). Spike has a kink for virgins, and he doesn’t care who gets hurt satisfying it.
Why this fic? It’s evil. It’s bastard!Spike at his finest. And the ending rocks.
The Magic of Cinema by thatotherperv—Spike/Xander. Teen!fic. Xander goes to see Alexander and enjoys it a little too much. Then Spike enjoys it with him.
Why this fic? This fic captures Xander's nervous optimism and fear of rejection perfectly. Spike as the seemingly confident, older, cool guy melts my heart, and I love the intersection of the action on screen with the action in the seats.
Not Fair by winterlive—Angel/Lindsey. Angel and Lindsey sneak into the ladies' locker room and the girls demand reparations.
Why this fic? Let's face it, their behavior in canon was already adolescent foreplay. This is just the logical extension...and what a yummy extension it is.
Oh Very Young by apreludetoanend—Spike/Xander. Uncle Rory shows up for a visit with someone in tow. Human S/X in the basement. Between cousins. Whee! Not very sexually explicit.
Why this fic? If you’re used to incest-fic having that dirty edge, this is a total departure from that. it’s just so *sweet*. And it manages to make the basement scenario seem fresh, which is pretty darn impressive these days.
Older by nautibitz—Spike/Buffy. Spike is Buffy's new stepfather and they can't help but have a torrid, sekrit affair and fall crazy in love.
Why this fic? Two words: fandom classic. This is the story that inspired a thousand older/younger fics. The storytelling is elegant and tight…I enjoy that she skims over some of the obligatory exposition in favor of keeping to the emotional meat of the story. The result is naughty and angsty and heartbreaking and wonderful.
One Rainy Friday Morning by reremouse—Spike/Xander. So Xander's skipping class.
Why this fic? It's short and sweet. who can resist boykissing and juvenile delinquency?
Outside Pride by cordelianne - Spike and Xander meet at a Christian summer camp named, of all things, Outside Pride.
Why this fic? well ok, beyond the scenario making me happy in my pants like the sick bastard I am, this fic is adorable. plus, cordelianne gives good Scooby banter.
Pity Fuck by meretrix—Angel/Spike. It's Angel's first pride. He takes a road trip to San Francisco, because he's eighteen now, and out of the closet, and it's something that you have to do once in your life. He meets someone at the parade. Someone dangerous and older. *waggles eyebrow*
Why this fic? Because it’s hot. Because I said so. Because the only thing better than Queer as Folk is QaF-turned-Spangel.
Popularity by chlare—Angel/Wes. Liam is popular, and Wes just can’t keep his eyes off him.
Why this fic? Not only is this fic made of sweetness, I love her style and pacing.
Pretty Baby by meretrix—Angel/Xander, implied Angel/Spike. When Xander orders a hustler, both parties get more than they bargained for.
Why this fic? She writes this type of gritty reality so well. She brings sympathy and life to these characters in a way that’s just beautiful. In the ugliest way.
Really Not Bad by eyezrthewindows—Spike/Xander. Xander's at the mall minding his own business when someone comes along and just...totally rocks his world.
Why this fic? It's gratuitously charming :)
Seven Minutes in Heaven by strickens girl—surprise/Xander. Boys kissing. Surprise pairing! Ooooo, shiny.
Why this fic? It’s fun, and um…surprising. Honestly, I just can’t get too much teenage groping.
Spin the Bottle by thatotherperv—Angel/Spike. The boys get cornered into doing something they really don’t want to do. They really really don’t…right? This fic is not sexually explicit.
Why this fic? The boys are adorable when they try to pretend that they hate each other. Teenage fumbling. Awkward discoveries, and sweet revelations.
Strangers Have the Best Candy by spankspike—Spike/Liam. Spike, a streetwalker in Dublin, is having a slow night until he stumbles upon a boy peeking in on a back-alley sex show.
Why this fic? Okay, I confess, this fic hits every last one of my kinks. It’s just so naughty, down to the eeeevil twist.
Subspace by toobusy2write—Angel/Spike. Days after Spike turns eighteen, he gets sucked into a whole new world by a mysterious man, but is it one he's ready for?
Why this fic? Forget that the concept is kinktastic. This fic has so much *heart*, and it drags you right into Spike's discovery of his place in the D/s world…the high and the vulnerability, the risks and rewards.
Summer Lovin’ by felisblanco—Angel/William plus a variety of other pairings. When summer hits, new-kid William is awkward and lonely…until he goes to the lake one afternoon. Boy-kissing, pot-smoking, and a near orgy ensues.
Why this fic? It’s seriously hot, and it’s seriously endearing. She does a great job of capturing that terrifyingly exciting summer romance sweetness…where time moves slow and anything is possible.
There Are Many Ways to Love by thatotherperv—Angel/various (het and slash). A series of vignettes following one boy's journey through sex and love. Not very sexually explicit.
Why this fic? This is just achingly sweet. It's amazing how mel captures so much canon characterization here, all the while keeping the story AU. It's the story of Liam, and how he learns to love and be loved. It's a story of coming of age and it's a fairytale. It's beautiful.
Trucker by ladycat—Xander/Spike. Xander has a reputation for giving pretty young things a safe lift. But that's pretty girls. Pretty boys are a different thing altogether.
Why this fic? it's canon. ...what, Xander wore a trucker hat once, right?
What He Needs by thatotherperv—Angel/Faith. When Angel’s daughter brings her ballsy friend home from college for Christmas, the girl pursues him. He…doesn’t resist, precisely.
Why this fic? A classic college girl fantasy brought into 3-D technicolor with characters we know and love. Faith is 100% her, so are Angel and Fred, and the premise is both familiar and fresh all at once. But the bottom line? It's kinky, hot and fun.
When the Flood of Waters was Upon the Earth by apreludetoanend—Angel/Xander, some Spike/Xander, implied Angel/Spike. Angel and Xander have a long history. So do Angel and Spike. Spike and Xander's history is just beginning.
Why this fic? apreludetoanend captures the essential elements of all three of these characters, and explores them in a setting that takes full advantage of all the possibilities.
Wonder!verse by savoytruffle—Spike/Xander. When barely-legal hustler Spike takes pity on a sexually curious teenager, he earns himself a fan club. Or maybe like…a pet.
Why this fic? I sprain my kink when I think about this fic, even though there’s very little to do with sex. the grudging, careful growth of affection between these two is utterly charming.
The Wrong Guy ‘verse by entrenous—Angel/Xander. A collection of one-shots in which Xander is the live-in love-monkey for an older, wealthy Angel.
Why this fic? Oh, so hot. Angel knows what he wants, and he knows how the world works…Xander's only just begun to learn.
