Why this fic? Nobody has a quirky sense of humor quite like Eyez, and the dynamics between these two are lovely…playful and sweet and just spot-on.
Closer by felisblanco—Liam/Will. Will is a lonely club-goer looking to make a connection…but an encounter with a dominating stranger might turn out to be more than he bargained for.
Why this fic? Felis writes Grade A angst. This fic has interesting things to say about the emotional complexity of power play and the gray areas of consensuality.
Dirty Dancing Spander-Style by savoytruffle—Spike/Xander. Yup. The title says it all.
Why this fic? I admit, when I first saw this fic, I thought, oh my god, that’s some *crack*. But the crack dealer was good, and lo, the crack was yummy. And by the end, I was believing it wasn’t crack at all. It’s generally not easy to pull off this kind of plot-borrowing, but Savoy pulls it off beautifully, and with a load of humor.
Eyefucks Leading to Cross-eyed and Bow-legged States by eyezrthewindows—Angel/Spike. Spike gets dragged to a club opening by his friend Faith. He’s not thrilled…but things work out in his favor.
Why this fic? Because it’s hot. Because she captures that club pick-up tension nicely. And because sometimes, names are an afterthought when you really need to be fucked.
Lil Devils by evilmaniclaugh—Spike/Xander. Xander gets sucked into hitting the road with an up-and-coming band…then managing them. It ain’t always what it’s cracked up to be.
Why this fic? It’s such a fun variation on the spander band!fic, but it has a lot of heart too. Also, Spike has big, gaping flaws, which might just be a kink of mine.
Meet the Pratts and sequel by verity watson—Spike/Buffy. When Buffy moves to LA to start over with her friend Willow, she meets a certain punk singer…who also happens to be a vampire.
Why this fic? Many times we can reduce Spike’s attraction to Buffy to one thing: she’s Chosen. The fact that they are each predator *and* prey is a powerful draw in their relationship, but this fic does a fantastic job of making the case that Spike loved Buffy the Girl as much as he did Buffy the Slayer.
Subspace by toobusy2write—Angel/Spike. Days after Spike turns eighteen, he gets sucked into a whole new world by a mysterious man, but is it one he's ready for?
Why this fic? Forget that the concept is kinktastic. This fic has so much *heart*, and it drags you right into Spike's discovery of his place in the D/s world…the high and the vulnerability, the risks and rewards.
Trouble!verse by savoytruffle—Spike/Xander. Xander is working as a bartender at a tropical resort when Spike walks into his life and stirs things up. A series of one-shots in the same ‘verse.
Why this fic? Mmm, it’s like the yummiest kind of brain candy.
Turn On the Bright Lights by cordelianne - Spike/Xander. It's like Xander's living Reality Bites but without Jeanne Garofalo to liven up the twenties angst. His best bet for a new roommate is to pull some random guy in off the street.
Why this fic? Xander's hapless and desperate, Spike's a shady badass with a heart of gold...what's not to love? quarter-life-crisis warm and fuzzy.
