Boys Like Him by thatotherperv—Spike/Buffy. 1950s human AU. Buffy’s a good girl. Spike’s a bad bad boy. She wasn’t supposed to like boys like him.
Why this fic? The mood of this fic captures the time period perfectly without making it feel dated. Sweet and incredibly sexy even though barely a scrap of clothes is removed, all within a world of rich, recognizable characters. A must read for any Spuffy fan!
The Drive-in by thatotherperv—Angel/Spike. Angel and Spike have been best friends forever. Now Spike has other ideas. Window-steaming ensues.
Why this fic? This is hot, funny, and sweet. thatotherperv explores what Angel and Spike mean to each other, despite their posturing. They're undeniable attraction for each other is inevitable, no matter what 'verse they're in.
Fascinating New Thing by thatotherperv—Angel/Dawn. When Angel develops a crush on Dawn, she pretty much laughs in his face. But, you know…things work out. Unapologetic fluff. Not sexually explicit.
Why this fic? This is Dawn better than canon. She's a full fledged young woman here, and she stakes center stage effortlessly. She's sassy, self-confident, smart and sweet. Angel with a crush is adorable, and all of the supporting characters are hilariously spot-on in their roles as the people who help and hinder their hook-up. A sweet, fun read.
Home by thatotherperv—Angel/Spike. Angel and Spike grew up together in the foster care system. When Spike ages out of the system and finds himself homeless, there’s only one person he knows will take him in. As long as he doesn’t give him a choice.
Why this fic? As usual, thatotherperv takes a unique starting point, and uses it as a means to uncover deeper issues between Angel and Spike. This is a classic HAU story: funny, sweet, deep, and amazingly hot.
Kept Boy by thatotherperv—Spike/Xander. Xander has a sugar daddy.
Why this fic? This story, on the surface, is all about life's practicalities, and the mechanics of a partnership built on convenience. But what blooms underneath the surface is a surprise to both of them.
Lover’s Spat by thatotherperv—Angel/Spike. Spike is tired of being Angel’s dirty little secret.
Why this fic? Oh, this fic is devious. Beautifully executed and angsty, with a wonderful twist.
The Magic of Cinema by thatotherperv—Spike/Xander. Teen!fic. Xander goes to see Alexander and enjoys it a little too much. Then Spike enjoys it with him.
Why this fic? This fic captures Xander's nervous optimism and fear of rejection perfectly. Spike as the seemingly confident, older, cool guy melts my heart, and I love the intersection of the action on screen with the action in the seats.
Spin the Bottle by thatotherperv—Angel/Spike. The boys get cornered into doing something they really don’t want to do. They really really don’t…right? This fic is not sexually explicit.
Why this fic? The boys are adorable when they try to pretend that they hate each other. Teenage fumbling. Awkward discoveries, and sweet revelations.
There Are Many Ways to Love by thatotherperv—Angel/various (het and slash). A series of vignettes following one boy's journey through sex and love. Not very sexually explicit. Why this fic? This is just achingly sweet. It's amazing how mel captures so much canon characterization here, all the while keeping the story AU. It's the story of Liam, and how he learns to love and be loved. It's a story of coming of age and it's a fairytale. It's beautiful.
What He Needs by thatotherperv—Angel/Faith. When Angel’s daughter brings her ballsy friend home from college for Christmas, the girl pursues him. He…doesn’t resist, precisely.
Why this fic? A classic college girl fantasy brought into 3-D technicolor with characters we know and love. Faith is 100% her, so are Angel and Fred, and the premise is both familiar and fresh all at once. But the bottom line? It's kinky, hot and fun.
